A driver smashed a £100,000 Porsche at 155mph, killing his passenger and leaving it a mangled wreck.
Cayke Pelegrino Tavares, 32, died instantly when he was flung from the flash, white motor yesterday (11 Dec).
Businessman Rodrigo Rodrigues Andrade Chiatti lost control of the car and struck a utility pole and a tree.
Chiatti, also 32, survived the crash with cuts and scrapes and was taken to a hospital.
He has since been discharged but is being held on remand on charges of manslaughter.
Police who inspected the wreckage found the car had been doing 155 mph – well over the limit.
The accident took place as the pair left a party in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
Officers found an empty whisky bottle a stone’s throw from the crashed motor.
Chiatti reportedly refused to take a breathalyser test, but police said his speech was disorganised and his walking unsteady.
They added that his breath smelt of alcohol and that he had bloodshot eyes.
The destroyed Porsche’s paperwork was in order, but police found that Chiatti’s driving licence had been revoked in 2011.
This was after he’d committed a “serious traffic violation” making him ineligible for a permanent licence, local media report.
The collision was so severe that the car’s engine was ripped out of the bonnet.
Parts of the vehicle were left scattered down the tarmac.
The Porsche was reportedly valued at more than BRL 800,000 (£129,000).
But Chiatti allegedly bought it for little over BRL 600,000 (£98,000).
Police removed the debris from the scene, while Cayke’s body was taken away for a post-mortem examination.
