Ever dreamed of getting paid to soak up the sun on a private island? Your dream could come true with a catch. The idyllic Great Blasket Island, off the coast of Ireland, is offering a unique opportunity for up to two people to live on the island for free during the summer while earning some extra income.

Once home to a fishing community until the 1950s, the island boasts a seal colony, breathtaking scenery, prehistoric sites, and vibrant plant life in the summer.

While lacking in amenities, it’s just a short ferry ride from Kerry. Successful candidates will run the island’s coffee shop and manage holiday accommodation and boat trips.

On their official website, they are currently accepting applications for couples or two friends interested in living and working on Great Blasket Island from April to October 2024. The job description outlines responsibilities: managing the coffee shop and four holiday cottages, welcoming overnight guests, serving day visitors, and ensuring daily operations run smoothly.

They seek a hardworking, responsible, and trustworthy duo with excellent people skills and initiative. Despite the allure of island living, applicants are reminded it’s not a holiday job, with the season becoming exceptionally busy.

The selected candidates will handle various tasks, from maintaining the coffee shop and guest accommodation to serving customers until 5:00 pm. Living quarters include shared sleeping space above the coffee shop and access to amenities.

In the evenings, a stove can be ignited for both cooking and warmth, and laundry is collected and washed on the mainland. Daily food deliveries are ensured through local shops, and during peak months – June, July, and August – two additional helpers will join the team.

Successful applicants need the ability to work in the EU, sufficient funds for travel to Ireland, and proficiency in spoken English. The role covers all expenses for food and accommodation, excluding alcohol and toiletries. However, there are no scheduled days off, unless weather conditions intervene.

If intrigued, visit the application website at greatblasketisland.net/job and prepare for a summer brimming with adventure.
