A 4-year-old named Zara Šifra has set a remarkable record as the youngest individual to reach the Mount Everest base camp. Accompanied by her 7-year-old brother Saša and their father David, they achieved this feat at an altitude of approximately 17,598 feet. David, vigilant due to the decreased oxygen levels, continuously monitored the children’s blood oxygen levels during the climb.
In an interview with NeedToKnow.co.uk, David affirmed, “Zara is for sure the youngest to carry out the climb.”

The Mount Everest base camp journey marked an extraordinary accomplishment for 4-year-old Zara Šifra. According to her father David, “She didn’t have any support, she walked on her own,” as they covered the distance from Jiri to the camp in 18 days, reaching their destination on January 1st around 4 pm.

David shared, “On the way back we went to Salleri, an estimated 100 kilometres, which we reached on January 10th. From there we took a jeep to Kathmandu.”
The total elevation climbed exceeded 20,000 meters, with the base camp situated at 5,364 meters above sea level.
David noted, “Incredibly, Zara constantly received some gifts and congratulations from other trekkers” due to her exceptional physical condition, allowing her to outpace many other climbers.

David expressed amazement, stating, “How is it possible that a four-year-old girl could physically and mentally manage something like this?” Zara, holding Czech and Canadian citizenship, resides in Malaysia with her parents.
Mount Everest, towering at 29,031 feet, poses a significant challenge. The record for the youngest person to reach Everest’s base camp in 2023 was held by Prisha Lokesh Nikajoo at the age of five.
When questioned about contacting Guinness World Records regarding Zara’s achievement, David remarked, “Yes, we’ll see how it goes.”
