Shocking pictures show the huge rockfall blocking a beach – in an area of the Jurassic Coast notorious for cliff collapses.
This week, a series of three rockfalls blocked the beach at West Bay in Bridport, with locals warned to steer clear of the edge and base of the cliffs.
Local photographer James Loveridge, 32, from West Dorset, captured images of the scene, showing the extent of the damage, with piles of rubble covering the sand.
“It’s sad to see how different this stretch of coast looks in recent years because of the rockfalls,” James told NeedToKnow.co.uk.
“The beach level is lower and the cliffs are under attack from the sea more often and with greater intensity.
“It seems like it will only continue to happen more often.”
Earlier this week, a spokesperson for Dorset Council said: “There have been three rock falls around the West Bay area that have blocked access along the beach.
“Rockfalls and landslips can happen at any time.
“If you are out on the coast, please stay safe by taking notice of warning signs and keep to existing paths.
“Stay away from the edge and the base of cliffs.
“The coastal path is still accessible and presently safe to use. We will provide any updates we receive.”
James previously shared shocking images of a huge landslide on a beach nearby, after a 230-foot crack emerged on the cliff in July.
The pictures, taken at Seatown Beach, shows part of the beach completely covered by rockfall.
Experts had warned that thousands of tonnes of rock could collapse “at any moment” back in January 2023, when a 60-foot-wide section of the 600-foot cliff sank by three-foot.
The initial crack was left in April 2021 following a huge collapse of two large sections of the cliff.
