The world’s richest footballer has suffered a horror injury during a match.

Faiq Bolkiah is the nephew of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei.

With an estimated net worth of £15.9 billion, he’s been described as the wealthiest on the planet.

He plays for Thai League 1’s Ratchaburi FC but got crocked on Saturday (17 Feb).

He was rushed to hospital after injuring his ankle during a challenge from an opponent.

Ratchaburi won the away clash with Police Tero 1-0.

But winger Bolkiah requires surgery.

Ratchaburi president Thanawat Nitikarnchana said: “Today is a very sad day as Faiq has suffered serious injuries from yesterday’s match.

“He will undergo surgery soon.

“I extend my condolences to Faiq from everyone.

“This is his first major injury, but we will take care of Faiq to the best of our ability and look forward to the day Faiq returns to play with us again.”

Ratchaburi currently sits fifth in the table of Thailand’s top-flight league.

Bolkiah, 25, was born in Los Angeles, USA, and was educated at the elite Bradfield College near Reading, Berks.

He played for the Southampton, Chelsea, and Leicester City youth teams before starting his senior career at Marítimo on the Portuguese island of Madeira.

He played for the Brunei national team between 2016 and 2018, serving as its captain and finding the net once – against Laos – in six games.

Fan Abidin said: “Pray for a speedy recovery.

“Stronger as ever.”
