A former footballer has reportedly been killed in a nightclub bathroom with three shots to the neck and chest.
Rosolino “Lino” Celesia was taken to hospital, but medics pronounced him dead on arrival.
The 22-year-old was allegedly killed after a heated argument in Palermo, Italy, on Wednesday night (20 December).
After interviewing witnesses and examining CCTV footage, the police arrested two brothers, aged 17 and 22.
The minor has been charged with murder, while his brother has been charged with illegal possession of a firearm.
According to reports, relations between the victim and the brothers had been tense for some time.
The three had reportedly brawled about a month ago.
A few weeks ago, a person in a crowd had fired shots into the air a few yards from the venue, local media reported.
On Thursday evening (21 December), locals took part in a vigil to demand increased security in the area.
Celesia played as a centre-forward for the youth teams of Trapani, Torino, and Palermo.
He then played for Marsala and Troina in Serie D.
He last played for Parmonval before hanging up his boots.
Celesia’s former club, Torino, said in a statement: “President Urbano Cairo and the entire Torino Football Club deeply share the pain of the Celesia family for the passing of Rosolino Celesia, a former youth player in the Granata (Torino) youth sector.
“To his loved ones, all relatives, and the numerous friends, the condolences and embrace of the Granata world.”
