Karaaslan, says something into the other man’s ear before suddenly slamming his forehead into his nose.
Shocked gasps are heard from those standing nearby as Bal recoils in pain.
As he tries to escape his attacker, Karaaslan tries to grab him and has to be held back by other people.
The attack happened on 31 March in Yildirim Municipality, Bursa, Turkey.
Bal wrote on Instagram on Monday (8 April): “I know that the attack carried out by someone I have never seen or known before wasn’t aimed solely at me.
“Our generation has suffered greatly from fratricidal conflicts and right-left clashes.
“May those days never happen again in our beloved homeland.
“This is my wish and hope.”
According to local reports, Karaaslan, from the neo-fascist MHP party, allegedly made the grey wolf salute on stage.
The hand symbol is linked to the far-right Grey Wolves political movement, which is affiliated with the MHP.
In response, Municipal Council member Zülfikar Bal of the winning CHP party made a victory sign as he left the stage.
This then reportedly prompted Karaaslan to turn violent, as reported on Need To Know.
After the attack, Bal was taken to hospital covered in blood.
Medics said his nose had been broken by the powerful blow.
Karaaslan, whose party is in an electoral alliance with President Erdogan’s AK Party, has been reported to the authorities.
