Her body parts were found in the town of Olteni near the Romanian capital Bucharest.
Investigators said the victim was killed by strangulation before being chopped into pieces and placed in bin bags.
The bags were then scattered in a field by the side of the road before being found by a group of friends passing through on 5 April.
She had gone missing on 6 March.
The investigation was hampered by the body’s advanced state of decomposition, and DNA tests were needed to identify her.
On 11 April, the police raided the home of a 64-year-old man.
He was placed under arrest when cops found traces of blood, a wire that he allegedly used to tie the victim, and a roll of plastic bags similar to those found in the field.
According to reports, the police also found traces of the victim’s DNA in his home.
Mirela’s family claimed that they had seen her in the suspect’s company prior to her death.
She told her sister that she was planning to meet him on the day of her disappearance.
The suspect has lived in Romania for over 20 years and owns several building companies, as reported by Need To Know.
The investigation is ongoing.
