Prosecutors are now investigating his death, which took place the previous night, as reported on Need To Know.
The police are studying CCTV footage and interviewing witnesses to see if it was an accident or a homicide.
Čybas, 27, may have lost his balance and fallen over the wall while under the influence of alcohol, say the police.
Another line of investigation they are considering is that someone pushed him during a violent mugging.
Prosecutors have ordered an autopsy on the athlete’s body in a bid to help solve the mystery.
Čybas had been partying with friends at the club in Genoa, Italy, on Friday (24 May) night.
After a few drinks, he reportedly got into an argument with some regulars.
The argument had escalated to the point where the bouncers escorted him out of the venue.
Čybas, from Lithuania, was staying with a friend who played for the local team, Basket Sestri at the time.
According to his social media, he was playing for Bjerringbro BK, a Danish side made up of Lithuanians, at the time of his passing.
The investigation into his death is ongoing.
