Brit holidaymakers have been left shocked after discovering a Benidorm pet shop selling ‘designer’ puppies in cages at the tourist hotspot.
It is selling a range of dog toys and essentials just like any other domestic animal store.
But at the front of the shop, there are tiny cages filled with puppies for sale.

Designer breeds including Dachshunds, Pomeranians and Chihuahuas are kept in small see-through cages with a price tag on the glass.
The confined space has small water and food bowls.
Some cages have just one puppy on their own but others include a pair of dogs.
One sign reads: “Lulu de Pomeranian.”
The Pomeranian is selling for €1,195 (£1,021)
Another reads: “Picolo” with the price tag of €1595 (£1,363)
This sign is attached to a cage with an Italian Greyhound and Chihuahua inside.
Two Brits, Graham and Darren, of Middlesbrough regularly travel to the Spanish holiday destination and spotted them.
The pair of pals found fame online after sharing viral videos of their frequent trips to Benidorm.
Graham said: “Pet shop in Benidorm where you can actually buy a dog.”
Thoughts on this?”
One person, called Frances, claimed: “This is disgusting.”
Michelle Keogh added: “Sad.”
Leah said: “I go see this shop everytime I’m over.
“It breaks my heart seeing them all in there.”
However, some had no issue with the shop.
One person, called Jules said: “As long as they are cared for and looked after. I’ve seen puppies in small cages in breeders’ homes.”
These have more freedom I would say.”
“Used to be in the UK though at one point,” said another person, called Lucy.
In the UK, pet shops and dealers are banned from selling puppies and kittens under government plans.
According to Gov.uk, those looking to sell cats and dogs need a license and they must meet a strict criteria regarding the animals living conditions.
Licensed sellers cannot sell dogs and cats less than eight-weeks-old.
Previously in Spain, pet shops were free to sell cats and dogs in pet shops.
Last year, a new law in Spain designed to tackle the mistreatment and abandonment of animals was introduced.
The law, approved last March, bans the sale of dogs, cats and ferrets in pet shops.
But there is a clause in this legislation.
Shops selling dogs, cats and ferrets will have 12 months to stop doing so.
The animal rights organisation, PETA have condemned pet shops selling dogs onsite.
PETA’s Vice President of Programmes Elisa Allen said: “Pet shops are grubby businesses that typically acquire the puppies they sell from breeding facilities where animals are denied proper socialisation, exercise, and veterinary care – and they sell to anyone who can pay, often sending sick animals home with unprepared, incompetent, or even abusive individuals.”
“It’s for this reason and many more that Spain passed legislation, set to come into effect later this year, banning the sale of dogs and cats at these unethical establishments – and it’s why we urge those ready to make the long-term commitment of bringing an animal into their family to always adopt, never shop.”
The shop has been approached for comment.
