Ever dreamed of leaving behind your life on land to set sail on the seven seas? It appears that now you can—well, sort of.
Departing from Belfast on 30 May, the Villa Vie Odyssey cruise offers an escape from the mundane realities of day-to-day life, with some cabins costing less than the price of a house.
This extraordinary journey will last three and a half years, docking at 425 ports in 147 different countries across the globe, perfect for anyone seeking solace from nosy relatives.

The ‘first perpetual world cruise’ will stop at various ports for between two and seven days, allowing adventurous passengers ample time to explore far-flung destinations without strict time constraints.
The voyage kicks off with a tour of Northern Europe, then heads to the Caribbean, North and South America, East Asia, the Pacific, the Middle East, Africa, and back to Europe.
The itinerary has been meticulously designed to ensure it stays sunny throughout the entire trip.
If the idea of spending over three years on a ship makes you feel a bit sea-sick, there are flexible options regarding the length of stay. Villa Vie offers a ‘pay-as-you-go’ option where you can join for certain parts of the trip.
The cost works out at $89 (£70) per day and covers rent, utilities, food, travel, and entertainment while onboard. Friends and family can join you for just $33 (£26) a day per guest.
For long-haul passengers, the cruise offers the option to own a cabin from as little as $99,999 (£78,300). For comparison, the average house price in the UK is £264,500 as of March 2024, according to Zoopla.
For those seeking an even longer-term adventure, Villa Vie offers the ‘Endless Horizons’ package, which provides ‘lifetime access to an ocean view villa’ and the ability to transfer ships when the cruise does.
This package costs $299,999 (£234,900) for one person and $499,999 (£395,600) for two people.
Amenities abound on the Villa Vie Odyssey. The ship boasts fast and reliable web access for remote work, a medical center, plenty of entertainment, and even a retirement package. It features eight decks with three restaurants, five bars and lounges, a pool with two Jacuzzis, a spa and fitness center, and a library.
“Villa Vie Odyssey will be customized for her immersive, 3.5-year global circumnavigations, ensuring all the comforts and amenities of home,” said Mikael Petterson, CEO of Villa Vie Residences, in a statement.
“Odyssey reflects the company ethos of creating a community to share unforgettable moments of discovery on an extended journey, connecting people, places, and self.”
So, if you’re ready for a never-ending adventure where it’s always sunny and potentially cheaper than buying a home, the Villa Vie Odyssey awaits. See you all onboard!
