Punters in the bar held the knifeman at the scene until police arrived.
Cops arrested the suspect, named as Diego de Almeida Pereira.
Monteiro, 58, was attacked in front of his bar after escorting Pereira out of the premises in São Paulo, Brazil.
He had become angry after Pereira, 34, allegedly harassed a female worker and bothered other customers.
Pereira, who was not a regular at the bar, showed signs of drunkenness and appeared to be on drugs, according to the police.
He exercised his right to remain silent while being questioned, as reported on Need To Know.
He was later remanded in custody accused of homicide with aggravating factors.
It emerged that he was on parole following a robbery conviction at the time of the stabbing.
According to the police report, moments before the attack, the bar owner had asked Pereira what he was going to do with the pocketknife he was holding.
Monteiro was laid to rest in São Paulo on Monday (17 Jun).
Nicknamed ‘Nenê’, he was a well-known figure in São Paulo’s rock scene.
His friends described him as kind, cheerful, and attentive.
A customer named Paulo wrote on social media: “It’s truly unbelievable! How can such a good person have their life taken away like this?”
The Malta Rock Bar remains closed until further notice.
