All 62 people killed in the Brazil plane crash died from multiple trauma, a forensic expert has confirmed.

As investigations continue into the tragedy, more details have emerged about the victims.

Those who died included cancer doctors, a three-year-old child, a lawyer specialising in lawsuits against airlines and a Venezuelan family and their dog, local media have reported.

All bodies have now been recovered from the site of Friday’s plane crash in the state of São Paulo, as reported by Need To Know.

And their cause of death is a “scientific certainty”.

On Tuesday (13 August), Vladmir Alves dos Reis, of the Forensic Medicine Institute, told local media: “Today, we are convinced that everyone died from multiple injuries.

“The aircraft plunged from a height of 4,000 metres, and the impact with the ground was so severe that they all sustained polytrauma.

“The burns that led to the carbonisation of some bodies were secondary to the multiple injuries.”

The twin-engine turboprop was flying from Cascavel in the southern state of Paraná to Guarulhos airport in São Paulo city when it came down on Friday (9 August) in the town of Vinhedo.

Horror footage shows how the ATR 72-500 spiralled before crashing to the ground.

It recently emerged that the doomed plane spent four months out of service this year due to “structural problems”.

It needed to undergo maintenance twice in the past five months alone.

On a flight from Recife to Salvador on 11 March, the plane sustained “structural damage” when its tail hit the tarmac during landing.

It was grounded in Salvador for 17 days before being sent to the Voepass workshop in Ribeirão Preto for repairs.

Three months later, the plane resumed commercial flights.

But on 9 July, it experienced a loss in cabin pressure during an empty flight from Ribeirão Preto to Guarulhos.

It was returned to the VoePass workshop, where it remained for further repairs until 13 July, when it was cleared to fly again.

Celso Faria de Souza, of the Brazilian Association for Flight Safety, believes severe ice formation on the wings is the likeliest cause of Friday’s crash.

He said: “There was a forecast for ice formation in the area where the accident occurred.

“Ice might have formed on the aircraft’s wing, and for some reason, the de-icing system didn’t work.

“As a result, the plane lost lift and crashed as we see in the video.”

Capt. Ruy Guardiola, who has accumulated 15,000 flight hours on ATR aircraft, told local media there was a problem with the anti-ice system button.

He said: “The problem was detected in the heating level of one of the systems.

“The maintenance team’s solution was to stick in a matchstick, or maybe a toothpick – I saw it with my own eyes.”

Mr Dos Reis said: “When these bodies are returned to their families, they will be 100 percent certain that it is indeed their loved one.”
