An alleged gang member has been arrested along with a social media star in connection with the brutal murder of a young nanny.
Antônio Chelton Lopes de Oliveira was apprehended on Wednesday (25 September) on suspicion of involvement in the killing of Geovana Costa Martins.
Geovana, 20, was found dead in an area of woodland on 20 August after going missing a day earlier.

Her body showed signs of torture.

The police believe Chelton, 25, helped kidnap Geovana and hide her body.
His alleged partner-in-crime, Camila Barroso da Silva, has been in custody since 28 August.
Camila, 33, had hired Geovana to work as a nanny in her home in Manaus, Brazil.

But the police say she forced her into prostitution.
A third suspect, Eduardo Gomes da Silva, is still at large.

The police say Chelton was arrested in 2023 on suspicion of belonging to a gang that seduced high-earning women in a bid to steal luxury cars.
Police chief Ricardo Cunha said: “The young woman disappeared on 19 August, and her body was identified by her family five days later.
“From that point, we began investigating to clarify the case and identify the possible perpetrators.
“After arresting Camila, further investigations revealed that she didn’t act alone, leading us to identify Chelton as the second direct accomplice in the case.”
The police say that one day before her disappearance (18 August), Geovana had moved out of Camila’s home and gone to a friend’s house.

Police chief Marília Campello said: “The witness stated that Camila repeatedly called the victim, insisting that she return home.
“Camila tried to control the young woman’s life by making promises and bringing up debts, which kept her in a position of dependence.
“On the 18th, the employer went to the victim’s friend’s house and forcefully took her away.”
The police believe Camila took her to a car, where a man was waiting for them.

They believe she was driven to the crime scene, where she was tortured and killed.
Camila boasts 13,500 followers on one of her social media accounts.
She calls herself a businesswoman and has apparently been on trips to England, France, and Spain.
The police are investigating the possible involvement of a fourth suspect, whose identity is withheld.
Oliveira claims he is innocent and was set up by Eduardo, as reported by Need To Know.

Camila is also protesting her innocence.
The police are working to identify other young women who were also allegedly sexually exploited at her house.
