A grieving man took his dead mum for a walk in a wheelchair, leaving onlookers stunned.

He took the body of 100-year-old Aurora do Nascimento Marques out yesterday (22 Jan).

She had died a day earlier.

One local screamed at him: “You’re messed up.”

Her body was slumped in the chair as it sat in the middle of the road.

The woman’s head was covered, but her hands and feet were exposed.

Cops were called to the street in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and took her body to a morgue.

Her unnamed son was taken to a police station to be questioned.

According to his testimony, he and his mum were threatened with eviction from their home on 7 January.

The elderly woman allegedly lost her mobility around the same time.

On Tuesday (21 Jan), she was in bed, feeling unwell and passed away shortly after.

Her son called for an ambulance and paramedics arrived at the home.

They pronounced his mum dead and told him that the Social Services would handle the body removal.

He allegedly waited, but no one showed up, so he decided to put his mum in a wheelchair and take her to a Social Assistance Referral Centre.

En route, he was confronted by locals who accused him of killing his mum.

He claims he was assaulted during the encounter.

However, officers say he had no visible injuries when taken to the police station.

A Rio de Janeiro Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) spokesperson said: “Following protocol, the Samu Central Office made several attempts to contact the family to provide information about free burial services, which are managed by contractors hired by the municipalities.”

Marques’s cause of death remains under investigation, as reported by Need To Know.

Last April, bank clerks in the city were stunned when a woman wheeled her unresponsive uncle into a branch in an alleged bid to take out a loan.
