A gunman had a change of heart while robbing a shop and decided to buy some sweets instead.

Bizarre CCTV footage shows how he marched into the store and pulled a pistol from his waistband.

He racked the slide and said to the cashier behind the till: “Hand over the money.”

As he pointed the gun at her, the startled woman replied: “What money do you want?”

After an awkward silence, the young man let out a nervous laugh.

He put his gun back in his waistband, pulled a coin from his pocket, and said: “All right, give me 100 pesos’ worth of sweets.”

He then mumbled sheepishly: “All right, sorry, love, sorry, love.”

As the cashier handed him 8p worth of sweets, she said sternly: “You don’t mess around with things like that.”

After making his purchase, the young man walked towards the exit.

Suddenly, he had a second change of heart and swiped a bag of crisps from a stand before bolting out of the shop.

He legged it down the road, turning back momentarily after his pistol flew out of his boxer shorts a whisker from a couple of stopped pedestrians.

The baffling scenes unfolded in Valdivia, south of Santiago, Chile.

He was later arrested.

Locals were bemused, as reported by Need To Know.

Andrea joked: “His first gig.”
