He crashed into the front of a lorry.
The emergency services arrived at the scene and began working to free the mangled car from underneath the HGV’s bumper.

There was nothing they could do for Coppola, who had died instantly in the violent impact.
The lorry driver emerged from the accident unharmed from the accident last Thursday (23 Jan) morning.
Coppola had married his wife – Siria Cantatore from Milan, Italy – last year.
On 18 January, just five days before the crash, she had posted ultrasound scans of their unborn baby to social media.

She had captioned them: “We already love you so much. Mummy and Daddy are eagerly waiting for you.”
The girl, Lilith, is due in March.

Coppola was from Torre Santa Susanna, Apulia, but lived in Venice, where the accident happened.
He is also survived by his parents and sister, as reported by Need To Know.

Cantatore wrote on social media: “We had so many plans for ourselves and for our little girl.
“I promise you I’ll always talk about you to our daughter, tell her how wonderful and special you were, and how much love you had to give to us, your family.
“How you couldn’t wait to hold her and start this new chapter together.”

Coppola’s send-off will be held in Venice on Friday (31 Jan).
His wife wrote: “I love you, my darling, and I’ll never stop loving you!”
