A singer has died aged 39 from mpox complications after the virus left him ravaged with sores.
Gutto Xibatada passed away after being diagnosed with the virus back in March.
He was admitted to the hospital and placed in isolation.

After responding well to treatment, he was discharged and referred to a specialist facility.
But on the night of 21 April, his condition suddenly worsened, and he was taken to A&E the next morning.
He died on 22 April, about eight hours after being admitted, as reported by Need To Know.

The Municipal Health Department in Belém, Brazil, says his cause of death is still under investigation.
But it blamed his rapid decline on the “progression of pre-existing conditions and opportunistic infections”.
Mariusha Dias believes her brother contracted the illness at the end of last year while travelling.

She recalled how he had originally kept his diagnosis a secret.
On Friday (25 April), Mariusha said: “It started with small, barely noticeable spots.
“But the blisters eventually spread and seriously affected his health, especially because he had asthma.
“The illness reached his lungs, and he lost his ability to speak, see, and feel.
“On his last day, he was in a very bad state. His nose was completely blocked, and so was his mouth. He couldn’t eat any more.”

Gutto, whose real name is Augusto Demétrio Neto, was well known in the forró scene in Brazil’s Pará state.
Forró is a folk music genre from rural north-eastern Brazil.
He also had a degree in nursing.
Shocking photos showing the singer’s face and body covered in sores have been doing the rounds online.
Mariusha has accused the hospital where her brother was treated of negligence.

She said, “He was having seizures.
“After they stopped, he fell into a coma, because he wasn’t getting proper medical attention.
“No one was coming into the room. There should have been someone with him the whole time, but there wasn’t.
“It was incredibly painful to witness.”
