He plunged from the roof and landed hard on the cushion.
The firefighter appeared to scream in pain before bouncing off the side of the airbag.
The accident took place at the offices of the Federal Judicial Council in the Mexican capital Mexico City yesterday (29 Apr).
The exercise was part of the 2025 National Drill event to prepare citizens to respond safely in the event of an earthquake, as reported by Need To Know.
Medics treated the victim at the scene before transferring him to a nearby hospital for further care.
The firefighter reportedly sustained multiple injuries in the jump, but was admitted to hospital in a stable condition.

One local said: “They can’t even do a drill properly.”

Another added: “Isn’t that the purpose of a drill, to assess risks, identify potential problems and be able to make mistakes in order to improve?”
“Weren’t they the ones demonstrating how best to jump?” asked Sergio.

Following the accident, the authorities said they will review all safety procedures for future drills.
The Judicial Council said the event was otherwise a success.
A spokesperson stated: “In total, 20,541 people were evacuated from 37 buildings.
“The actions were supervised in real time on the esplanade of the Juan Álvarez building, where screens were installed to monitor these preventive exercises.”
