Sparks flew as a bed which the lorry was carrying collided with the overhead line.
As a large cloud of smoke burst through the air, the truck dramatically tumbled onto its side, as reported by Need To Know.
Thomas Baeken, who works for Belgian railway company Infrabel, said that the damage caused was “very large”.
“All pipes have been pulled off, so the damage is very large,” he said.
“The truck was then overturned.
“The driver was able to crawl out of the cab on his own and fortunately remained unharmed.
“This could all have been much worse.
“On such a line is 3,000 volts.”
Rail replacement buses were scheduled for the people travelling who were affected.
Infrabel specialists arrived at the site to evaluate the damage and make repairs as quickly as they could.
At the time, Thomas added that repairs would take a “few days”.
He said: “It will be a long-term effort to repair this damage.
“Count on a few days.”
The accident took place at around 3pm on 30 April.
The accident took place on Robert Dansaertlaan, located in Groot-Bijgaarden, a village in the municipality of Dilbeek, a suburb of Brussels, in Flanders, Belgium.
