An anti dog meat campaigner was stunned after visiting China and witnessing its thriving trade in the animals.

Julia de Cadenet of the No to Dog Meat charity was shocked at what she saw.

She started the British-based organisation ten years ago to rescue dogs heading for slaughter in that country.

She was in Yulin , southern China along with activists called ‘Mr Zhao and ‘The Judge’ who have also been working to rescue dogs heading to meat markets

But on Friday, (20 Jun) soon after arriving she found it hard to express her horror, as reported by Need To Know.

She said: “I am currently in Yulin but I have been struggling to find the words to express how it feels to be back in China.

“I am comforted by the fact my journey took me 29 hours straight, multiple planes, trains and driving with no sleep, so being tired helps to dull the constant ache of the brutality and bloodshed that is overwhelming and hard to bear.

“Mr Zhao and ‘The Judge’, have been here for the last week, and when they met me at the bleak railway station outside of the city our emotions were mixed.

“I am happy to be reunited after our ten long years of working together but to be back in this hell hole is the hopeless bond only the most hardened rescuers feel in the face of pure evil.

“They also met me with a surprise.

“A small puppy they had rescued from a motorbike with cages bound for Yulin.

“As he looked me in the eye, just a day after his rescue, I wanted to break down.

“It brought home to me more than ever that the lives lost are not just photos and videos from far away lands, but trusting souls who are tortured and betrayed.

“And still, they choose to love us.

“I wanted so desperately to shower and sleep, but his little paws and soft fur pushed me to continue documenting and uncovering the horrors.

“Mr Zhao told me he was also struggling to close his eyes as the sound of the knives chopping up the bodies rang through him.

“Guanxi is a large county in the south of China, and dog meat markets are everywhere.

“They no longer solely rely on trucks coming in with stolen pets from the north but have dozens of ‘ breeding farms ‘ dotted around the mountains.

“We plan to expose some of them and prove that the dog meat trade has not ended, not in Yulin and not in the surrounding areas.

“Many Western propagandists are peddling the idea that things are so much better.

“That’s not how I saw it last year, and it’s not the experience thus far of our team.

“What I do know is that the local government has a tight grip on photos and filming, and vendors who sell live dogs outside the city have been warned not to sell to foreigners, including non-local Chinese.

“We are thousands of miles from our base, and some of the dogs we have saved so far have already tested positive for distemper and other infectious diseases.

“No vet locally will treat them, so we have to send them urgently to hospitals that will.”

I do not understand these people of China, why do they eat dogs, the persons best friend? These animals sre that nice and do not hurt people. I will never understand these Chinese people.

A normal feeling person will never understand the asian brutality against animals. These slaughterhouses are rooms of tortures, not normal slaughterhouses where animals are killed but not tortured. These people torturing animals can’t have any kind of normal feelings. How can they bear the cries of the dieing animals, don’t they see the fear in their eyes. They must be completely unemotional, hard, brutal like maschines. How disgusting such kind of people. This “business” must be stopped at once in whole Asia. Thank you Julia, Mr Zhao, the jugde and all helpers!
