A search for a missing backpacker who fell while hiking an active volcano has entered its third day.
Juliana Marins, who posts travel content for her 51,000 Instagram followers, slipped and fell about 300 m in the early hours of Saturday (21 Jun).
The 26-year-old, who works in advertising, was hiking with five other tourists and a local guide.

They were on their second day of exploring Mount Rinjani – a 3,726-m-tall volcano on the Indonesian island of Lombok.
It is believed the accident happened near the summit while Juliana was lagging behind the rest of the group due to tiredness.

Her fellow hikers have since told how it was cold and dark at the time, and the trail was tough and slippery.
Her sister, Mariana Marins, told local media: “She got very tired and asked to rest. They went on ahead. The guide didn’t stay with her.
“We were told that Juliana panicked because she didn’t know what to do – and that’s what led to her disappearance.
“When the guide realised she was taking too long, he returned and saw she had fallen far below.”

Juliana was last seen – lacking warm layers and struggling to move – at around 5:30 pm on Saturday in drone footage filmed by another group of hikers.
A search operation was launched but has since been suspended several times due to heavy fog.
The rescuers are now using a thermal drone to try to locate her, as reported by Need To Know.
Juliana’s father, Manoel Marins, told local media: “We don’t know where she is. The authorities haven’t reached her.

“She hasn’t received water, food, or anything. She’s been alone for over 36 hours, and now it seems they don’t even know where she is.”
Juliana – from Niterói, east of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil – embarked on a solo backpacking trip across Asia in February.
Before arriving in Indonesia, she visited the Philippines, Vietnam, and Thailand.
As well as posting images from her trip on social media, she often shares photos and videos of herself pole dancing.
The search continues.

This is such a tragic incident, and my heart goes out to Juliana and her family. It’s concerning that the guide didn’t stay with her when she was clearly exhausted. The conditions on Mount Rinjani sound incredibly challenging, especially in the dark and cold. I hope the search efforts resume soon and that she is found safe.
