There are so many reasons to make sure your business is as sustainable as possible in 2025, including pressure from your customers to demonstrate that you share their values.  The good news is you can find out all about the most effective ways to make your business greener in the post below.

Encourage walking and biking to work.

First of all, if you have any employees, you can make your business far more sustainable by encouraging them to either walk or cycle to work.  By doing this, they will reduce the overall carbon emissions your business produces, because they won’t be reliant on gas vehicles.

Ways that you can motivate employees to bike to work include running a bike purchase scheme where they can choose a bicycle and have the company pay for it outright.  Many businesses then either allow employees to pay a small amount from their wages each month to pay off the bike, so they can keep it even if they choose to move jobs.

Another way that you can encourage employees to walk a bike to work is to provide proper showers and changing rooms.  This means that even if they work out on their commute, they will be able to wash themselves thoroughly and change, so it will be comfortable and business-appropriate.

Another option that has a similar impact as encouraging employees to walk and bike to work is to switch to a remote of this. This means that employees will not need to leave their homes to work,  thus removing the need to use gas-powered vehicles or public transport.  In addition, many employees find working at home more conducive to a better work-life balance, and so it’s a choice that is not only good for the environment but great for morale as well.

Choose green buildings.

If offering remote working is not suitable for your business, then making sure you choose green and sustainable premises is crucial. Sustainable or green buildings, as they are also known, often include features such as being built with sustainable materials,  being water and energy saving, reducing waste, and even featuring green walls or roofs.

Indeed, it is now possible to get green roofs on a variety of different types of structures, including things like this Bus Shelter, which is ideal protection from the elements for your employees. Green roofs offer a wide range of benefits, from improving the insulation of the structure to reducing water runoff. They even help absorb CO2, so they are a must for any business looking to be greener.

Consider renewable energy.

From a one-person operation run in a spare room to a multinational conglomerate,  every business needs to consume energy to be able to operate.  However, when it comes to sustainability, not all energy is created equal.  Indeed, harvested from the harvesting of fossil fuels is seriously problematic from a sustainability viewpoint.  This is because fossil fuel suppliers are Limited,  mining them is disruptive to the environment in which they are found,  and even when we do have access to them, burning them is highly toxic and contributes to the release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere,  further worsening the greenhouse effect.

Happily, energy that comes from clean and renewable sources is now more available than ever.  This means, as a business, you will need to do your due diligence and make sure your company chooses energy that is harvested from renewable sources such as solar and wind farms.

Be mindful of your paper consumption.

A few years ago, running a business without using paper was almost unthinkable.  Everything was done on paper; even things done on the computer were printed out and filed in real life.  The big issue with this, despite being a simple product, is that the consumption of paper has a huge impact on the environment.  The reason for this is that paper comes from trees,  and to make it fast, forests must be felled.  These forests are then no longer available as biodiverse ecosystems,  or for absorbing CO2 and the atmosphere, further contributing to the greenhouse effect. Similarly, huge amounts of energy are used to fell, chop and process the trees into paper.

With this in mind, you have two options to consider when it comes to a water-sustainable approach to paper consumption.  The first is to choose paper that is sourced from renewable forests.  What this means is that every tree that is cut down is replanted, so the impact on the environment and ozone layer is reduced.

The other option is to banish paper from your business altogether,  otherwise known as going paperless.  The great thing about going paperless is that it’s incredibly easy with modern technology, as paper is no longer needed for the running of your business. Additionally, when your business goes paperless, you will also save a significant amount of money on operating costs.  This is the cause you will reduce spending on the product of paper,  and also the cost for a square footage space needed to store and maintain paper files. So that ending switching to a paperless operation can be beneficial for your business as well as the environment.

Choose sustainable suppliers.

You will have already noticed that your own customers vote with their wallets when it comes to businesses that share their values.  This applies to being more sustainable as a company, as you can also do the same when it comes to choosing the suppliers and providers you work with.  Indeed, by prioritizing the most sustainable options in your field and making it clear that sustainability is a huge Factor in this choice, you can help effect change not only in your business but in your industry as a whole.

Full circle manufacturing process.

Lastly, if you produce or manufacture a specific product, you should look into A full circle manufacturing process.  This type of process is designed to ensure that every element of the products you create and be easily identified and so broken down for full recycling.  In essence, this reduces a huge amount of waste because even when products come to the end of their functional lifespan, they can be fully recycled and turned back into new items. Thereby reducing not only landfill waste but also the amount of energy needed to create new materials as well.
