Doctors have dug a plastic chip out of a man’s eye after he was hit at “high velocity” by the flying object.
The 22-year-old man was rushed to the hospital with severe trauma to his upper eyelid, lower eyelid, eyebrows and nose.
He could hardly see and required an immediate operation to save his vision, as reported by Need To Know.

A facial CT scan was performed to assess the extent of trauma at the Department of Otorhinolaryngology and Maxillofacial Surgery, where medics found a plastic chip lodged into the man’s face.

The patient underwent an operation under general anaesthesia, and the “soft, plastic projectile”, approximately 1 cm wide, was “carefully extracted without complication”, according to the authors of a case report in the Radiology Case Reports journal, published on ScienceDirect.
The journal did not state where or when the horrendous injury had taken place.
At a check-up one month later, there were no signs of long-term nerve damage or infection, and his sight had recovered.

Shocking images and X-rays of the man’s face showed the chip lodged in his head, just centimetres from his eyeball.
Medics said: “Intraorbital foreign bodies (IOFBs) represent a rare yet clinically significant cause of orbital trauma, with potential for severe visual and functional impairment.
“Early diagnosis, precise imaging, and tailored surgical management are critical in optimising outcomes and preventing complications such as infection, chronic inflammation, and neurovascular damage.

“The prognosis largely depends on the composition of the foreign body, the timing of intervention, and the extent of initial injury.”
