A six-year-old girl was taken to hospital after swallowing a key while playing with her brother.
The child reported finding some keys during a game with her sibling, placing one in her mouth and accidentally swallowing it.
Worried about being told off, the two children didn’t come clean until the next day, when the little girl became “anxious and frightened”.

Her mother rushed her to the emergency room, despite her having no symptoms, where scans show the key lodged in her abdomen.
As it didn’t appear to be obstructing anything, and with the girl not displaying any negative symptoms, doctors kept her under monitoring rather than trying to surgically remove the key.
They continued to take X-rays, which showed the key travelling through the body.

One taken 48 hours after she was admitted show the key passing along her intestines, as reported by NeedToKnow.
The key continued to travel downwards, and 72 hours after she was admitted, the child passed the key with her stool “without any complications”.
Incredibly, she suffered no ill effects from the incident, and was soon discharged.
Follow-up checks by the team, believed to be based in Ecuador, found the child doing well and not experiencing any complications following the near-miss.
