A footballer died after being electrocuted while setting up an internet connection.

Alfredo David Cristobal reportedly touched a high-voltage power line while installing the internet cable and was zapped.

He passed away outside his home aged 25 on Sunday (31 Aug).

The emergency services found him without vital signs at the base of the power pole.

The footballer’s sudden death left his wife, Margarita Gomez, in shock.

His teammates at Deportivo El Rodeo de Olancho in Honduras described him as a “kind, polite and responsible young man” who was passionate about his family and football.

Alfredo, who was an electrician by trade, had his wake at the football ground that he called his second home.

Dressed in their black and red kit, the El Rodeo team carried Alfredo’s coffin to the centre circle, as reported by Need To Know.

A teammate gently kicked a ball against the former player’s coffin to symbolise his ‘final pass’.

Meanwhile, a large banner dedicated to Alfredo was displayed on an empty stand.

Local residents attended the wake while holding balloons and wearing the team’s colours.

One fan said, “Every time I went outside, I used to find you playing on the road, your jokes will never be forgotten.”
