She also represented multiple fashion brands on the catwalk before moving into TV work – featuring in adverts for Naris Cosmetics and Tokyo Gas.
Megumi, who was born in Kanagawa Prefecture, announced on social media that she had been diagnosed with stage four colorectal cancer in 2021.
She put her career on hold to focus on treatment, sharing updates about her health journey with her followers, as reported by Need To Know.

In her final post in 28 October last year, which coincided with her birthday, she said: “Even though I live with pain, I managed to get through the past two weeks relatively peacefully.
“Tomorrow I have another hospital appointment and a CT scan.
“My husband looked quite worried this morning as I kept groaning from leg cramps.
“I enjoyed the sake lees soup he made for my birthday, I’m 47 now.”
In recent years, Megumi concentrated on running the French restaurant Bistro11, which she managed with her husband.

Her management agency, Bon Image, confirmed her death on their website.
A spokesperson said she passed away last month and that her funeral was held privately on 19 December in accordance with her family’s wishes.
They added: “From the very beginning, she devoted herself fully to treatment and fought bravely against her illness.
“The time we spent together with Megumi Furuya is an irreplaceable and precious memory, we are heartbroken by the loss.”
