Storm Goretti has battered a beloved British town – with a tree left blocking a school, shops “blown through” and firefighters shutting a main road for fear that glass from a new building will “fall out”.
The beachside tourist hotspot Newquay has been hit hard by the chaotic weather with 100mph winds causing chaos.
The town’s centre has been heavily damaged with windows smashed and debris sprawled across roads, leaving locals horrified.

The chaotic weather hit Newquay on Thursday evening (8 Jan).
A huge tree has been toppled over, blocking access to Trenance Primary School, with the school believed to have closed for the day.
The popular dining spot Turkish Kitchen on Cliff Road has been heavily damaged.

The entire outdoor seating area has been smashed by the winds, which tore down the roof.
Local firefighters have also been called into action.
They shut down Pentire Avenue this morning (9 January) for fears of glass from a new building falling out.

One local told Need To Know: “My friends are worried about the glass falling down.”
The Esplanade Hotel has also been heavily damaged with the front of the business being battered by the wind.
