A combat veteran who deployed to Afghanistan has revealed she now lives in a penthouse and has walked at major fashion events, all after discovering her ex-boyfriend was secretly buying content from other women.
Vanessa Herr spent nine years in the US Army National Guard before turning to OnlyFans. Since then, she has walked at Miami Swim Week, LA Fashion Week and New York Fashion Week.
The Colorado-based model grew her Instagram following from 700 to more than 100,000 in less than a year.

“I think most fans would be surprised that I’m a veteran and that I’ve deployed to an actual combat zone,” she told Need To Know. “It’s not something I normally talk about.”

Her move into content creation came during a difficult period in her personal life.
“When I found out what was going on, I decided that I would start creating and selling my own content,” she said. “I started taking it seriously in the summer of 2023.”
Before her rise online, Vanessa was juggling military service with college, retail work and waitressing, barely scraping by while serving her country.
Now, she says, the financial transformation has been life-changing, not just for her but for her family too.
“I was able to pay my family’s property tax debt off so they could sell a home left to them by my grandparents when they passed,” she said.
She built her audience largely through marathon Instagram Live sessions.
“I built my following mainly by going live for hours a day,” she said.

When she decided to launch her OnlyFans properly, she felt it was important to tell her dad first.
“I pretty much said, ‘Hey, I’m over dancing and stripping. I’m trying to move to working online instead,’” she recalled.
“‘The internet is a big place but just be safe and don’t click on anything involving the name Vanessa.’”
She says her entire family has been supportive of her career change.
Vanessa now lives in a penthouse, travels the world, often for free, and works with creatives across the fashion industry.
“I get to travel the world, work with amazing creatives,” she said. “I live in a penthouse, do whatever I want whenever I want without having to report to anyone.”
Despite her glamorous online image, she says her real-life style is far more low-key.
“Contrary to my image on social media where I’m always in as little as possible, in real life I bring a very Adam Sandler, Post Malone, Billie Eilish vibe to the function,” she said.

“Most of the time I wear baggy sweats and a hoodie.”
Looking ahead, Vanessa has ambitious plans beyond content creation.
“I want to purchase and develop my own land to create a family compound,” she said. “Completely remove myself from the matrix.”
Her advice to new creators is straightforward.
“Not everyone is your friend and that’s okay,” she said. “Vet who you work with and definitely make sure to check the references when it comes to working with photographers.”
