A mother was ‘stabbed nearly 30 times’ in front of her children on International Women’s Day.

The main suspect is her 36-year-old partner who reportedly fled the scene after the crime.

Mariana Camila de Oliveira Santos, 30, was killed with her children as witnesses.

According to the police, her 10-year-old son called emergency services after witnessing the alleged attack.

Paramedics rushed to the victim’s home in Santa Luzia in the city of Belo Horizonte, Brazil, during International Women’s Day yesterday (8 Mar).

They found her lying dead in the couple’s bedroom with numerous wounds, including a slit throat.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Edgar de Miranda said the suspect, named as Jonatas Douglas de Oliveira, called his mother while fleeing the scene.

He allegedly told her that he committed “a little homicide back there”.

Edgar Miranda said: “On such a special day for women, this sad and regrettable event happened.

He added: “Femicide is always a cruel and barbaric crime.”

The victim’s sister Leticia Teresa said: “Today, International Women’s Day, my sister became yet another victim who will be added to this statistic.

“And the pain stays with us because he will continue living, she won’t.”

The couple had been together for seven years and got married two months ago, as reported by Need To Know.

The suspect is a martial arts fighter, owns a gym, and has several prior arrests for drug use and assault, according to the police.

The authorities are still trying to track him down as the investigation continues.

Mariana leaves behind a 10-year-old son and an eight-year-old daughter from a previous relationship , s well as a five-year-old son that she had with the suspect.
