The extreme weather conditions began on Tuesday (10 Mar), as reported by Need To Know.
An eyewitness claimed the tornado initially formed about 25 miles southwest of Kankakee, in Illinois, United States.
The twister reportedly struck the fairgrounds first before moving northeast and crossing the Kankakee River into Aroma Park.
Shocking images from a lakeside village in neighbouring Indiana show two houses completely wiped out.
Officials in Kankakee have now launched an emergency operations centre and declared the situation a disaster.
The State of Illinois has been contacted to assist with search and rescue efforts in the area, while also carrying out a damage assessment.
At this moment, no injuries or loss of life have been reported.
Flooding and severe hail have also battered the region, adding to the disastrous conditions.

The sheriff’s office has urged residents and drivers to limit travel as much as possible due to the damage caused by the storm.
Sheriff Downey said: “I want to remind area residents to check on their neighbours and loved ones, but to avoid unnecessary travel, if at all possible.
“Storm damage, debris and downed power lines and trees have created hazardous conditions on our roadways.”
