Two twin brothers were electrocuted after one of them attempted to save the other.

The accident happened while Francesco and Giacomo Fierloni were training birds on Tuesday evening (21 Apr), ahead of the upcoming hunting season.

When they failed to return home or answer their phones, their father, Giorgio, went out searching for them with an uncle.

They were found at around midnight, unresponsive, lying in an embrace in a field in Soccorso di Magione, Italy.

Paramedics attempted CPR at the scene but were unable to revive them.

Police believe the brothers were trying to retrieve one of their decoy pigeons, which had landed on an electrical wire about 10m (33ft) high, using a pole normally used to position decoys for wood pigeon hunting.

One of the twins is thought to have accidentally made contact with the high-voltage line using a carbon-fibre pole and was electrocuted by a 20,000-volt discharge.

The other may have suffered the same fate while trying to save him.

Francesco and Giacomo, who worked in their father’s heating and plumbing business, were just a month away from their 23rd birthdays.

Their hobbies included hunting, caring for their birds and fishing, as reported by Need To Know.

Magione mayor Massimo Lagetti, who knew the pair personally, said: “They were two exceptional young men who worked with great dedication and were always extremely kind.

“It’s a tragedy that is very hard to come to terms with.”

Giorgio and his wife, Roberta, told local media: “Francesco and Giacomo were our strength, our present and our future.

“They were born together and they left together, united by a bond that went beyond brotherhood.”
