An 18-year-old suspect has been arrested and hit with federal charges after a shocking bank robbery turned deadly.

Brailen Weaver is accused of storming into a branch on 30 April and opening fire almost immediately, killing two employees in what prosecutors describe as a brazen daytime attack.

According to investigators, the teenager entered the bank just before 2pm wearing a mask before shooting a male employee and a female teller moments after walking through the doors.

He then rifled through drawers before fleeing the scene, sparking a massive multi-agency manhunt involving local police, the FBI and federal agents, as reported by Need To Know.

The victims have been named as 42-year-old Brian Switzer and 35-year-old Breanna Edwards.

They have both been described as valued members of the local community.

Authorities quickly tracked Weaver using surveillance footage, social media activity and a silver BMW believed to have been used in the getaway at the bank in Berea, Kentucky, US.

Just hours later, the suspect was spotted travelling along Interstate 75, triggering a dramatic police chase reaching speeds of up to 130mph.

The high-speed pursuit ended when the car crashed, with Weaver attempting to flee on foot before being arrested by officers in the early hours.

He is now in federal custody facing a string of serious charges, including armed bank robbery and using a firearm to cause death during a violent crime.

Court proceedings are already underway, with prosecutors pushing to keep him behind bars as the case moves forward.

Officials say the case has left the small Kentucky community reeling, with seasoned prosecutors admitting killings during bank robberies are extremely rare.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to piece together the full sequence of events leading up to the deadly attack.
