It is understood the family had been travelling in a BMW when it was struck by a Jeep Cherokee.
Police said the driver of the Jeep allegedly abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene on foot in Playa Del Rey, Los Angeles.
In a statement, the LAPD said the suspect left “without stopping to identify themselves or render aid as required by law”.

The department added: “The Los Angeles Fire Department’s paramedics responded and pronounced one occupant of the BMW deceased at scene.
“The other 3 occupants of the BMW were transported to a local hospital, where one was later pronounced deceased, and one is listed in critical condition.”
Emergency crews rushed to the scene, but Roger later died from his injuries.
A GoFundMe page launched by Roger’s grandmother described the youngster as a “happy and joyful child who brought light to everyone around him”.
The fundraiser states Roger had been born prematurely and faced several medical challenges during his short life, including surgeries and seizures.

Despite those difficulties, his family said he remained a “blessing” to everyone who knew him.
The online fundraiser has been launched to help cover funeral expenses and support the grieving family.
Police are continuing to investigate the crash.
