A former dentist has been sentenced to life in prison after being convicted over the fatal shooting of her boyfriend at the couple’s home.
Suzanne Mericle was sentenced on Monday (11 May) after being found guilty of felony murder, aggravated assault and criminal damage in connection with the death of James David Barron.
Prosecutors said Barron was shot through a locked bedroom door during an argument inside the couple’s Gainesville, Georgia, USA, home in March 2025.

Evidence presented during trial reportedly showed Barron died after suffering a gunshot wound to the torso.
Hall County Superior Court Judge John Breakfield sentenced Mericle, 63, to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 30 years, according to reports.
During sentencing, the judge described the shooting as a “jealous rage”.
The case centred around an argument involving claims Barron had been sending money to a woman in Moldova, as reported by Need To Know.
According to reports, Mericle’s legal team argued for a lighter sentence, citing claims relating to previous abusive relationships and PTSD, but the judge rejected the request.
Mericle had previously worked as a dentist on St Simons Island, a coastal area in Georgia, where she was known locally through her dental practice.
