A toddler who nearly died after inhaling cake decorating dust is now awake, smiling and breathing on his own again, his relieved family has revealed.
Dustin “Dusty” Wildman from the Gold Coast, was placed in an induced coma earlier this month after accidentally breathing in decorative powder while his mother was baking a birthday cake.
Now, nearly two weeks on from the horror incident, the 14-month-old’s family say he is awake, smiling and breathing on his own again.

In an update shared on Instagram by his mum Katie Robinson, the family wrote: “Our beautiful boy is awake and alert, playing and smiling.
“This morning, he had all breathing assistance taken out and is breathing completely on his own.”
Dusty still has a feeding tube in place while doctors work to get him eating normally again, as reported by Need To Know.
“He’s trying to talk but still has a very raspy voice,” the update continued.
“X-rays are showing inflammation to his lungs still, so we still need to take that day by day.
“We’re hoping he proves the doctors wrong and there’s no permanent damage.”
The terrifying incident happened on May 1 while Robinson was decorating a Bluey-themed birthday cake.
Dusty allegedly inhaled a decorative powder used during the baking process, which later turned into a sludge-like paste inside his lungs.
Doctors later discovered the product contained copper and zinc compounds after sending the powder away for testing.
Robinson has since warned that edible and non-edible cake decorating products can look almost identical.
