Two young women have been gunned down by masked motorcycle assassins after a high-speed chase.
The victims, identified as Karen Valentina Vega Peralta and Nicol Cristina Amaya Díaz, were ambushed while riding a scooter home from a social gathering.
The 20-year-old best friends were riding through Girón in northern Colombia at around 2:40am on Sunday (24 May) when the gunmen struck.

The suspects, riding a white-and-blue Suzuki DR 150, opened fire and struck both victims.
Karen died at the scene with gunshot wounds to her right shoulder and chest, her body left on the roadway.
Nicol was rushed to a local hospital but succumbed to her injuries shortly afterwards.

A police spokesperson said one victim was apparently the intended target, the other was caught in the crossfire.
Investigators believe Karen was the primary target.
She was reportedly in a relationship with a man linked to ‘Los del Sur’, a criminal organisation involved in drug dealing in Girón’s nightlife venues.
Her friend is believed to have been collateral damage.
William Quintero, commander of the Bucaramanga Metropolitan Police, said the women had been socialising with friends in the Caneyes area before heading to an apartment.

They were followed and ambushed during the journey.
Karen worked making deliveries, as a nursing auxiliary, and as a webcam model.
Nicol studied aesthetics and had no known criminal record.
The authorities have requested a reward from Girón’s mayor to encourage public information leading to arrests.

Quintero confirmed the romantic link to a suspected drug trafficker as a key line of inquiry, as reported by Need To Know.
No arrests have yet been reported, and the investigation remains active.
Officials are urging anyone with information to come forward.
