A rock singer has hit back at Liam Gallagher, who has predicted a 5-0 thrashing for England against Mexico next week.
Mexican artist Fher Olvera of the band Maná, which performed at the World Cup opening ceremony, was outraged by the British singer’s announcement.
A war of words erupted on social media days before the highly anticipated clash, which will take place at Mexico City’s Azteca Stadium on 5 July.

Gallagher made the bold forecast on X while replying to a fan who asked how he felt about England “being crushed at the Azteca” in the round of 16 knockout tie.
The Wonderwall singer said: “I think we’ll beat Mexico 5-0.”
Draped in the Mexican flag, Olvera responded in turn with an Instagram video for his three million followers.
He stated: “The singer of Oasis said Mexico is going to lose against England 5-0.
“Come on, get real mate. 5-0?
“Calm down!
“We’ll see you on Sunday to see how it goes, mate.
“No way!”
The rock star’s fiery riposte quickly went viral among Mexico supporters.
The Oasis frontman later poured more fuel on the fire.
He said: “Let me just clear something up I was obv kidding when I said England will beat Mexico 5-0.
“I reckon it’ll be more like 3-0 to England.”

Sunday’s match marks England’s first visit to the Azteca Stadium since the 1986 World Cup when they lost to eventual champions Argentina.
