A 26-year-old driver has been arrested for running over a cop during busy World Cup celebrations.
Sergeant Assistant Bernardo Troncoso was struck by the suspect’s red Volkswagen Gol while providing security during the festivities.
Footage showed the motorist apparently ploughing into the officer amid chaotic street celebrations following Argentina’s victory over Cabo Verde on Friday (3 Jul).

The cop suffered multiple traumas from the impact and was taken to the Hospital Aluminé in the town of Aluminé in Neuquén Province, Argentina, for treatment.
He remains under medical observation, has been placed in a neck brace, and has been advised to take extended leave from duty.
The driver allegedly fled the scene immediately after the collision.
A local resident was also reportedly hit during the incident and sustained minor injuries.
The police launched an immediate search operation and found the Volkswagen Gol parked in the garden of a local property, as reported by Need To Know.
Officers obtained a judicial warrant and secured the vehicle.
At around 11.30pm, the suspect emerged from the house and allegedly insulted officers and threw objects at them.
He was overpowered by the police and was detained at the scene.
The suspect was then taken to hospital for medical checks before being placed in custody on the orders of prosecutor Laura Pizzipaulo.
The investigation is ongoing.
