A climber has been branded “stupid” after footage appeared to show them pulling out their phone while stranded on a tiny ledge 260ft up a mountain.
The climber had been free climbing the face of Mount Yonah when they became stuck and unable to safely climb either up or down.
They were not injured but were left stranded on a ledge measuring just around 20 inches by 20 inches, according to rescuers.

The dramatic incident unfolded shortly after 7 pm on Tuesday, August 25, after the climber called 911 for help.
Emergency crews used a drone to quickly locate the stranded climber around 260ft up the mountain’s west face.
Footage from the rescue shows the climber perched high above the ground as crews worked to reach them.
Firefighter Will Roper then rappelled down the rock face towards the stranded climber.
Working with colleagues operating the rope system above, he was able to secure the climber before helping them back to safety.
The entire rescue was completed around 42 minutes after crews arrived.
White County Fire Services, EMS, Emergency Management and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources all responded to the emergency.
The drone was described by officials as “instrumental” in quickly locating the climber and helping crews reach them.
Despite escaping without injury, the climber’s decision to continue free climbing until becoming stranded has prompted criticism online.
Some viewers have also reacted to footage of the climber appearing to use their phone while perched on the tiny ledge.
The rescue was ultimately completed without further incident, thanks to the coordinated response of the emergency teams.
White County Public Safety praised all of the agencies involved and the personnel who brought the climber safely down.
The video of the rescue was shared online, and users were quick to share their thoughts.
