An iconic UK landmark has been left with a gaping hole where its EYE should be following an alleged sledgehammer attack.
The Big Fish – a 10-metre-long ceramic salmon and one of the Belfast’s most recognisable attractions – suffered significant damage.
Shocking pictures show a huge section of its left eye completely smashed away, with broken pieces of ceramic and glass scattered across the ground.

A sledgehammer was also pictured at the scene, as reported by Need To Know.
Members of the volunteer-run Community Rescue Service reportedly intervened after spotting a man attacking the sculpture with a sledgehammer.
The individual allegedly fled before being chased by members of the group, who contacted police, according to reports.
Officers were called to Donegall Quay at around 12.30am following a report that someone had been seen damaging the landmark.
Police said “significant damage” had been caused to its left eye.
A 44-year-old man was subsequently located nearby.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday (20 September).
He has since been charged with criminal damage and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.
He is due to appear at Belfast Magistrates’ Court today (21 September).
The Police Service of Northern Ireland said that, as is usual procedure, the charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
The Big Fish, also known as the Salmon of Knowledge, was created by artist John Kindness in 1999.
Its distinctive blue-and-white exterior is made up of ceramic tiles depicting scenes and information relating to Belfast’s history.
Police inquiries are continuing.
