He said she leaves behind a “legacy of love, joy, kindness, inspiration” and a voice and spirit that “will never be forgotten”.
Angela had largely kept her health battle private, as reported by Need To Know.
But in a birthday post last year, she described the previous 12 months as the most challenging of her life and referred to a “surprising health challenge”.

She said she was grateful to have survived it and was ready to embrace what lay ahead.
Angela began her broadcasting career after moving from Buffalo, New York, to Washington, DC.
She went on to build a decades-long career across television, radio and music.
During the 1990s, Angela hosted BET entertainment news programme Screen Scene.
She later became one of the network’s pioneering presenters of jazz programming, including Jazz Central.
Angela also became a familiar voice to radio listeners through her work at WHUR 96.3 FM.
Most recently, she hosted late-night programme Pillow Talk with Angela, which was broadcast on WHUR and SiriusXM.
Her career also included an appearance on The Real Housewives of Potomac in 2020.
Angela even made a cameo as a TV anchor in Eddie Murphy’s 1992 film The Distinguished Gentleman.
But music remained one of her greatest passions, with Angela describing herself as a jazz singer first.
Her husband said a celebration of Angela’s life will be held in Washington, with the date and venue still to be announced.
