A husband who allegedly told detectives immigration agents had taken his missing wife has been charged with her murder after her burned remains were identified.
Gurinder Gill, 28, was arrested over the death of his wife, Jasmine Gill, 30, after investigators said his account of her disappearance didn’t add up.
The murder suspect was arraigned on Friday (16 Oct).

The couple were in the middle of an ongoing divorce and child custody dispute, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.
Jasmine was last seen at her home in California on 30 September with a cousin reporting her missing on 4 October, as reported by Need To Know.

During the initial investigation, Gurinder claimed that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents had taken Jasmine into custody while she was checking the mail at their residence, the sheriff’s office said.
But when detectives contacted ICE, the agency confirmed that no enforcement activity had occurred at the residence.
As the investigation progressed, detectives identified “several inconsistencies” in Gurinder’s statements about his wife’s disappearance.
On 1 October, three days before Jasmine was reported missing, burned human remains had been discovered in El Dorado County, east of Sacramento.
It was later confirmed that the remains were those of Jasmine.
Homicide detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Gurinder for murder, and he was located and arrested on Wednesday, 14 October.
Detectives also executed search warrants at two residences associated with him.
He was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on murder charges and is ineligible for bail, The Sacramento Bee reported.
Jasmine leaves behind an eight-month-old baby boy.
Her mother, Sukhwinder Kaur, said her daughter was “subjected to a lot of cruelty” as she requests for her body to be sent back to her in India.
Sukhwinder, a former nurse, raised her daughter as a single mum.
“We cannot bring Jasmine back. We cannot restore the future she deserved or take away her family’s grief,” reads a GoFundMe online.
