Documents have revealed Premier League legend Sergio Aguero was ‘asked to front’ a Spanish drug gang.

The Manchester City icon was targeted by an Argentine drug trafficking operation who wanted to use the footballer.

The 38-year-old’s name surfaced in an Argentine judicial investigation into an organisation accused of international drug trafficking and money laundering.

The investigation started after 12 litres of liquid ecstasy were intercepted at Buenos Aires’ Ezeiza airport in June.

The seizure of the drugs led to 27 raids, 11 arrests and the discovery of drugs, cash, cars and mobile phones across the capital of Argentina, Buenos Aires.

On 28 Aug, the head of Independiente’s hooligan firm Pablo ‘Bebote’ Alvarez was arrested, as reported by Need To Know.

The suspect was accused of importing synthetic drugs from Spain and cocaine from Bolivia.

However, the seizure of the phones led to a bizarre twist in the investigation – with the five-time Premier League winners name popping up a number of times.

According to the files, members of the drug ring spent months attempting to recruit Sergio ‘Kun’ Aguero to their operation, as reported by Clarin.

Prosecutors allege the network laundered drug money through two ticketing firms, blending illicit cash with genuine takings from lower-division football matches.

The gang’s plan was to hang that platform on Aguero’s name by using the brand ‘KRU Tickets’.

Inspired by KRU Esports, a gaming outfit founded by the footballer after he retired.

One of the members accused, Diego Anzalone, allegedly told an associate in January they would be signing with the footballer within a fortnight.

The documents stated that in late March a proposal was made to split the business in two – with one company reserved for Aguero.

Alleged discussions about flying to Mexico to close the deal also featured in the files.

On 22 Apr, Anzalone wrote about leaving a face-to-face meeting with Aguero where the agreement was sealed.

The files also included a logo dated 12 May and a PDF titled ‘guion_kru_tickets.pdf’ on 12 Jun.

The PDF was an alleged script for a launch advert the gang hoped Aguero would film.

Whilst in his cell, Alvarez told the court a 50% stake in the ticketing company was being flogged to the ex-striker, as reported by the Olive Press.

There was no indication in the files that a sale was completed, that money changed hands or that Aguero even knew who he was dealing with.

Sources close to the Premier League legend stated he routinely receives offers of this nature and no agreement was made, as reported by Clarin.

Investigators also alleged that the group wanted a way into Aguero’s street-football tournament – the ‘Copa Potrero’.

The former Atletico Madrid, Manchester City and Barcelona forward has not been named as a suspect by the Argentine authorities.
