Fourteen diehard, non-league footy fans made a 650-mile round trip to watch their beloved Eastleigh play Gateshead.

The round trip to watch the FA Cup giant killers play on Tuesday (6 Feb) took the fans an excruciating 11 hours to do.

It almost looked like a journey well spent as they took the lead in the 54th minute thanks to a goal from Enzio Boldewijn.

But the National League side conceded a 98th-minute equalising penalty.

As the match went on the 14 supporters were in full voice trying to kick their team on – despite having to sit in the icy -1C conditions.

They had a stand to themselves in the 11,900-capacity Gateshead International Stadium.

The efforts of the away day support did not go unnoticed, as they received plenty of plaudits from rival fans.

Andrew Jackson said: “Any fan who travels is a credit to their team and football.

“Especially in the lower leagues.”

Frank Horsley said: “Hats off to these lads.

“At least they got to sit in one decent stand.”

Henry Kravitz said: “Gateshead fed them for free to show their appreciation.”

Ryan Hubbard said: “Absolute full credit to them on a midweek game.”

Eastleigh knocked out League One Reading 2-1 in the FA Cup second round.

But they were beaten 3-1 by League Two Newport County in a third-round reply after a 1-1 draw.
