An adorable dog has been forced to spend the last 740 days stuck inside a kennel as he waits for his forever home.

Alvin, a four-year-old Lurcher, had a rough start to his life.

His previous owner had been using the tan and white dog to help him hunt but had failed to treat the dog’s injuries.

The ex-owner was given a suspended prison sentence and banned from keeping animals for the next five years.

In February 2023, Alvin was signed over to the RSPCA and put into their care, as reported by Need To Know.

Despite being a firm favourite at the Warrington, Halton & St Helens Branch rehoming centre, staff are now pleading for dog lovers to give this pup a new home.

One of his favourite hobbies is to go for rides in the car and he is always up for going on an adventure with the centre’s walking volunteers.

Due to his previous experiences and spending over half his life in kennels, however, an experienced owner is required.

Alvin wouldn’t be able to live alongside cats or small furry animals due to his prey drive, however, he is happy to wear a muzzle and can be left alone for short periods.

Being quite a large dog, owners who are experienced in this breed will need to be willing to provide ongoing support for his house training.

Alvin has also had limited interaction with youngsters but is capable of living with older children.

Staff at the Warrington, Halton and St Helen’s Branch rehoming centre in Slutchers Lane specialise in looking after neglected, abandoned and cruelly-treated dogs and cats.

Many of the animals are brought in are the subject of court proceedings.

Animal care manager, Katie Buckley, said: “Alvin has been in kennels half his life which is a long time for any animal.

“It’s obviously frustrating that we’ve been unable to put him up for adoption until fairly recently, but now that we can, we’re determined to find him the best-ever home.

“He’s only had one application since February but unfortunately it wasn’t quite right for him as he needs a garden and places to go out and explore.

“He’s been with us for such a long time and everyone at the centre is incredibly fond of Alvin, but he deserves a home of his own where he’ll be spoiled and loved.

“He’s a really gentle, happy and affectionate dog who loves human companionship and would really enjoy being part of family life.”
