A woman who suffered from five miscarriages and then sadly lost her “miracle baby”, is sharing her story to help others realise that there is life after loss.

Lisa Peruzzi, 37, had dreamed about becoming a mum ever since she was a little girl.

But sadly, over the years, the former team leader suffered from five “traumatic” miscarriages, which she claims doctors were unable to explain.

Not giving up hope, she tried once more – and eventually gave birth to little Jorge, weighing 1lb and 2oz.

Though the trauma didn’t end there, as the tot passed away five weeks later after a battle with multiple infections, with Lisa left believing being a mum “wasn’t meant” for her.

“I thought to myself that maybe I wasn’t supposed to have children,” Lisa, from Norwich, Norfolk, told Need To Know.

“No matter how much I begged Jorge to keep fighting, he was so poorly that he had to be sedated from the pain.

“His lungs were so badly damaged, he couldn’t come off the respirator.

“When the doctor told me he was unlikely to survive, I refused to hear it.

“I said I would do anything and everything I could do to make it work – but then I was forced to confront reality.”

Lisa, who tried to remain positive throughout the pregnancy, was overjoyed when nurses confirmed everything looked healthy at each scan.

At 23 weeks, though, the mum was diagnosed with preeclampsia, a condition that causes high blood pressure, where an emergency delivery was carried out.

Due to being premature, they were both kept in the hospital until he had developed enough to go home – with things looking positive.

She said: “I couldn’t believe he was finally here – and so healthy, too.

“I bought baby clothes, nappies – which I had to cut to size – and so many books.

“It was like my dreams had finally come true.

“But then, he kept struggling with lung infections because they hadn’t developed properly, which broke my heart.

“I longed for the day I could finally take him home, so we could put all this trauma behind us.

“Though that never became a reality, and on only my third time holding Jorge, he passed away.”

Lisa says it was the “worst pain imaginable” losing him in June 2017, but in a bid to help other mums with loss, she’s sharing her story.

Now, she wants to spread the message that there is life after loss – especially as she’s now pregnant again, with her second baby due in October 2024.

She added: “I’ve taken a new start in life that’s allowed me to finally accept his death.

“I’ve moved to the countryside with my two pets and live a quiet life, while still keeping busy.

“The strength to get through this has reminded me that no matter how hard things get you’ve just got to keep moving forward.

“I’m nervous about the future, but I know his little brother or sister will grow up knowing all about him.

“I’m finally in peace and I hope my little baby is, too.”
