A knifeman allegedly stabbed his sister-in-law to death amid a long-running dispute about a PARKING SPACE.

The horror unfolded in the communal staircase in the block of flats they both lived in.

Furious Giuseppe Caputo, 62, allegedly attacked his 28-year-old niece with a jackknife after waiting for her to arrive home.

Her mother, 63-year-old Giovanna Chinnici, intervened in a bid to protect her but was stabbed three or four times.

Giovanna’s daughter sustained minor injuries. She shouted for help and other family members restrained Giuseppe.

Her mother was rushed to a hospital in critical condition, where she died from her injuries on Tuesday (22 Oct) afternoon.

Giuseppe was arrested on suspicion of murder and of attempted murder in Nova Milanese, north of Milan, Italy.

Giovanna lived with her two sisters, their elderly mother, and their respective husbands in the same block of flats.

Tensions between Giuseppe and his in-laws had been running high for years, in part due to the parking space dispute.

Before the stabbing, there had been arguments, insults, and even spitting on and punching car bonnets.

Giuseppe’s son, David Caputo, says the parking space quarrel was the tip of the iceberg.

He claims his dad had even tried to sell their flat because his aunts and uncles “made our lives hell”.

David told local media: “They kept blasting cold air into our home with their air conditioners.

“Anyone treated like that would eventually react, even if he reacted the wrong way.”

He claimed: “This whole conflict started because my aunts and uncles are causing us harm. They’re very possessive people.

“There are several reasons, including various financial and property interests.”

David’s other aunt has dismissed his claims as “all lies”.

Giovanna volunteered for the local branch of the social cooperative ARCI, where she coordinated psychomotricity courses for kids.

It described her as a “sweet, kind, intelligent, and cheerful person” with an “unforgettable and radiant smile”.

A neighbour told local media: “She worked with children and was a wonderful person.

“I often heard loud voices and arguments, but it had never escalated to anything like this before.”

Giovanna had worked for years in nearby Cinisello Balsamo, as reported by Need To Know.

Its mayor, Giacomo Gilardi, wrote: “Giovanna bravely intervened to protect her daughter from a knife attack by her uncle.

“As a result, her daughter was injured.

“We will all remember Giovanna for her kindness and dedication, and we are deeply saddened by her loss in such devastating circumstances.”
