On the day of the flood, the boys were at home with their father in Torrent, Valencia, when water suddenly stormed their apartment.
They had been patiently waiting for their mother to return home to join them for dinner.
Tragically, the children were swept away by the water.
The children’s father, Victor, was also caught in tide but miraculously managed to survive after grabbing on to a tree.
After going missing on 29 October, rescuers, neighbours, volunteers and divers have spent countless hours desperately looking for Ruben and Izan.

The search had concentrated heavily on the Pollo River, which was around six kilometres away from the family’s home.
Their bodies have been found in different locations, a few kilometres away from Torrent.
Their family have been left heartbroken.
Local authorities are providing them with support, as reported by Need To Know.
The story of Rubén and Izan has left the people of Valencia, and the whole of Spain, devastated.

The regions of Valencia, the eastern part of the Castilla-La Mancha region, and Andalusia have been the areas most affected by the recent extreme weather.
