An autistic boy had his finger amputated after an alleged accident with an air conditioner at his school.
The boy’s mother, Roberta Pereira da Silva, claims a class monitor was not with the teacher at the time of the accident.
She has reported the school to the authorities after her four-year-old son lost a finger and needed part of his hand reconstructed.

Roberta said her son was in class with around 15 other children when his finger became stuck in the air conditioner.

She claimed the device did not have a protective grill.
The accident happened at the Dona Aramita Municipal School in Lagoa Santa, near Belo Horizonte, in Brazil.

The teacher in charge said the classroom assistant was not present when everything happened.
The boy was taken to the Santa Casa de Lagoa Santa Hospital where doctors carried out a four-hour operation.
Surgeons had to amputate the lad’s little finger and part of his hand.
The tendon of his ring finger also needed to be reconstructed.
His mum complained: “It was a real shock for us, it’s surreal.
“We handed over our perfectly healthy child to the school and this happened.
“It’s only just sinking in, we’re still not ready to see what happened to his little hand.
“For us parents, this kind of thing hurts a lot.”
The family has filed a police report and the local Education Department has been notified of the action.
Roberta said city officials visited the school the following day to conduct a preliminary investigation, as reported by Need To Know.

She said they have not yet provided any assistance to the family.
Roberta stated: “They didn’t give me any feedback and then just disappeared.
“No one has contacted me since.
“The only people who showed up were the teacher and the classroom assistant who sent messages and came to visit my son.”
Roberta also said her son will need specialised physiotherapy in Belo Horizonte and that she is worried about covering the costs.
The police have confirmed they are investigating the incident.
